Admission
Admission to IIT Bhilai is based on merit and entrance exams. The most popular entrance exams for IIT Bhilai admission are the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and Advanced for undergraduate programs, and the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for postgraduate programs.
- Admissions to BTech programs in all disciplines offered by the Institute will be made in the Monsoon semester of each academic year. Towards this purpose, IIT Bhilai shall participate in the Joint Entrance Examination process common to IITs.
- Admission to MTech and PhD programs in all disciplines offered by the Institute will normally be made in the Monsoon Semester of each academic year. Institute may also offer admission in such programs in the Winter Semesters. Further admission of the PhD program may also be offered in the middle of a semester. Each department offering such admissions will declare admission procedure as per the academic calendar.
- All students shall be required to pay prevalent tuition and other fees as prescribed by the Institute at the time of joining and also in subsequent regular and summer semesters as long as they are on roll of the Institute. After the nominal duration of the program, current fee of the program at that time will be applicable.
For undergraduate program (BTech):
Foreign candidates wishing to pursue their BTech program at IIT Bhilai have to appear for
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) – Main and JEE – Advanced.

Those qualified foreign candidates who opt for the BTech will be admitted to BTech program
at IIT Bhilai on supernumerary seat basis.
For postgraduate program (MTech):
Candidates fulfilling either of the following criteria are eligible for admission to MTech
program at IIT Bhilai.
i. Qualifying degree (as notified in following link time to time) from India/Abroad and with valid GATE score. Such candidates may apply online through admission portal.
ii.Qualifying degree (as notified in MTech admission brochure time to time) from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 or above. Such candidates may apply through the online admission portal.
iii. Qualifying degree (as notified in MTech admission brochure time to time) from universities abroad / forwarded by ICCR. Such candidates may download the application form and submit the duly filled application along with the academic record and letters of reference to Academic section, IIT Bhilai. In case of ICCR scholarship, candidates may submit their application through the Indian High commission/Embassy as applicable in their respective countries to ICCR, GoI and ICCR may forward the application to IIT Bhilai. Institute also accepts applications through Study in India scheme (SII). Institute fellowship may be provided for exceptional candidates.
For postgraduate program (MSc):
Candidates fulfilling either of the following criteria are eligible for admission to MSc program
at IIT Bhilai.
i. Foreign National with qualifying degree from Indian.
a. Foreign national who did their qualifying degree (BSc, BTech, etc.) in an Indian University/Institution Must have a valid JAM score and admission shall be through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) admission portal.
ii. Foreign National with qualifying degree from abroad. Foreign national having qualifying degree from a foreign University/Institution Must fulfil the following.
a. Students should have met the eligibility criteria, as defined by the institute time to time for Indian nationals. Appearing/ clearing of JAM examination is NOT mandatory.
b. Student should bear proven record for English proficiency (medium of education in English or English as a major subject in qualifying degree or proficiency in IELTS Academic/ TOFEL/Pearson PTE with Minimum overall score of 6.0, 70, and 50 respectively).
c. Qualifying degree from universities abroad / forwarded by ICCR. Such candidates may download the application form and submit the duly filled application along with the academic record and letters of reference to Academic section, IIT Bhilai. In case of ICCR scholarship, candidates may submit their application through the Indian High commission/Embassy as applicable in their respective countries to ICCR, GoI and ICCR may forward the application to IIT Bhilai. Institute fellowship may be provided for exceptional candidates.
For Doctoral program (PhD):
Candidates fulfilling either of the following criteria are eligible for admission to PhD program
at IIT Bhilai:
i. Qualifying degree (as notified in following link time to time) from India. Such candidates may be considered on par with the Indian candidates applied under similar category. Such candidates may apply through the online admission portal.
ii. Foreign nationals with degree obtained in foreign countries must meet the minimum educational requirements, (i.e.) Master’s degree in respective engineering/science discipline with good academic record. Such candidates may download the application.
