IIT Jammu was founded in 2016 and welcomed its first batch of students in Paloura, Jammu. Initially, IIT Delhi mentored IIT Jammu. In 2018, IIT Jammu shifted to its permanent campus in Jagti village, Jammu, on 400 acres of land provided by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. Phase 1A of the main campus is operational, while Phase 1B and 1C are under construction. The main campus is located on National Highway-44, 17 km from Jammu Airport and 19 km from Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

Admission

IIT Jammu Admission at the undergraduate level is through the Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE Main) and Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced). Admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs is through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the Joint Admission Test for MSc. (JAM), respectively.

B.Tech Programs and Admission Procedure

IIT Jammu Starting from July acadmic Year, the institute offers admissions to 7 (seven) B.Tech programs. The admission to B.Tech programs is done through JoSAA and administered by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) at the all-India level. B.Tech is a regular full time residential program which generally spans for 4 academic years.

After receiving the report of admitted students from JOSAA, Online Verification, Registration and Fee payment along with Physical Document Verification are done. Once the processs is complete, the class work is commenced as per the semester schedule (available on Institute
website). Change of specialization/internal sliding is not allowed after taking the admission at IIT Jammu.

Master of Technology (M.Tech) Admission Procedure

Two types of M.Tech programs are offered by the institute. One is regular full time 2 or 3 year M.Tech program where all the students stay on campus during the programme duration. The second type is an online Executive M.Tech program where students attend the classes online.

Student can visit the institute’s website for minimum educational qualifications for admission to an M.Tech programme.

Admission Procedure

The concerned department offering the M.Tech program will adopt the minimum eligibility criteria and advertise the same. The admission can be through Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) or through any similar procedure.

In case of non-participation in such common national admission procedures, the admission process shall include either written test or interview or both.

In case of admission through written test/interview, a minimum weightage of 70% will be given to the GATE score in the final cumulative score for selection. The reservation of seats shall be as per the rules notified by Government of India from time to time. Candidates admitted to an M.Tech program under RA category (3-year programme) cannot change their category to TA category(2 year programme). Change of specialization/internal sliding is not allowed after the admission.

Master of Science:

The MSc and MS(R) are Postgraduate programs in the Sciences at IIT-Jammu. At present they are offered in the Physics and Chemistry departments. Admission to these programs is through the All-India selection through JAM. Student may visit institute’s website for minimum educational qualifications for admission to MSc and MS(R) programme.

M.Sc Admission Procedure

The concerned department offering the MSc program will adopt the minimum eligibility criteria and advertise the same. The admission can be through JAM portal or through any similar procedure. Admission To PhD Programs

Candidates applying for the PhD program will be selected by a combination of a written test and interview. Candidate may visit institute’s website for minimum educational qualifications for admission to PhD program.

Admission Procedure

The shortlisting of applications for the purpose of admission test and interview will be done by the concerned department.
The DPGC of the concerned department may set the shortlisting criteria, if considered necessary, higher than the advertised minimum eligibility criteria.
The selection process will be defined by DPGC of the department separately based on the requirement.

IIT Jammu Fee Structure

All students shall pay the requisite fee in order to take the coures and avail facilities on campus.

The payment is linked to the course registration for each semester of Academic Year wherein students are required to pay the fee so as to register for the courses. For fee details, students can visit the institute website.

Student may deposit the fee by logging in their E-Governance account or else deposit the fee in the institute bank account through NEFT/RTGS/Cheque/DD. The students who are paying fee through NEFT/RTGS/Cheque/DD are advised to submit the receipt to Institute through E-Governance by raising a request on Student Request Portal under the request type “Updation of payment Status” and attach the payment receipt.

The fee structure at IIT Jammu varies depending on the program, category of the student, and type of hostel accommodation.

IIT Jammu Scholarship

IIT Jammu offers a variety of scholarships to its students, including merit scholarships, need-based scholarships, and scholarships for students from specific categories, such as women, students with disabilities, and students from economically weaker sections.

Undergraduate Students (UG)

The procedure for disbursement of scholarships to the B.Tech students of each year during each Semester (Autumn Semester and Spring Semester) of the Academic year. For detailed policy, please visit Institute Website.

Merit-cum-Means (MCM)

Max. 25% of students’ total strength particular year (branch wise) to the Gen/ OBC-NCL/ EWS category students and the benefits under this “Tuition Fee refund & Rs. 1,000/- per month”.

Eligibility Criteria:

The MCM scholarship shall be available to General, OBC-NCL and EWS Category students only.
For the new admissions in every year (Autumn Semester), the JEE Advance Rank of the student shall be considered for determining the merit and award of scholarship.
For the existing students (Spring Semester & Autumn Semester – except new admission), the Cumulative Performance Index, CPI (SGPA & CGPA each >=6.0 and with total backlog courses <=2) shall be considered as eligibility criteria to apply for award of scholarship. Every Semester the merit list will be prepared as per CGPA and eligibility criteria.
The Gross Annual Income of parents/family for the completed financial year should not be more than Rs. 4.50 Lakh.
The student who avails this scholarship shall not be eligible for accepting or applying for any other scholarship from Govt., Semi-Govt., Institutional, Private or any other sources.
The student who had availed institute scholarship for a semester cannot opt for withdrawal/drop for the same Semester. If s/he does so, then s/he has to refund the availed scholarship for that Semester.

Free Messing

For all eligible students of SC/ST/PWD category students. The facility of free messing (only basic menu) and a pocket allowance of Rs.250/- for each month (only those months will be counted in which classes are being conducted) is also released upfront for each Semester.
