The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) is a public technical and research university located in Rourkela, Odisha, India. It was established in 1961 as one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), as autonomous national institutes of higher education governed by the Institutes of Technology Act of 1961. It is recognised as an Institute of National Importance (INI) by the Government of India. NIT Rourkela is one of the institutes of national importance under Ministry of Education, Government of INdia. Government of India has elevated the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela to an autonomous institution under the name of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.

Admission to NIT Rourkela
Admission to NIT Rourkela at the undergraduate level is through the Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE Main) and Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced). Admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs is through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the Joint Admission Test for MSc. (JAM), respectively.
Admission to all disciplines will be made in the Autumn Semester of each session at the First Year level through JEE(Main) or similar test approved by NIT Council, the counseling for which is done by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) or its equivalent approved by the NIT Council and/or Central Government.
